DRESS FOR SURVIVAL

What you wear can help protect you in a wildfire

What to Wear

Dress yourself and your family in clothes that will help protect  from heat, flying embers and flames.   Natural fabrics such as heavy denim, 100% cotton or pure wool are much better than synthetics no matter how hot it is.

Make sure to cover your entire body.

Synthetic fabrics like polyester can melt in contact with heat  and will stick to your skin causing serious burns.  Some synthetic clothing will ignite at much lower temperature than cotton.

  • Sturdy Boots
  • Long Pants - Pure Wool or Denim
  • Floppy Cotton Hat -- Tie Up Long Hair
  • Handkerchief or Bandana to Cover Face
  • Full Coverage Googles
  • Long Sleeved Collared Shirt in wool or cotton that Covers Neck
  • Wool or 100% Cotton Socks
  • Leather Work Gloves
  • N95 Mask to Cover Your Nose and Mouth
